Miss A’s Hospital Stay

Those of you who have been following my Facebook Page through the last few weeks know that Miss A has been very sick. For three whole weeks now, she’s been throwing up uncontrollably. On Tuesday, she was admitted for monitoring and IV fluids. Though it was extremely frustrating to sit on the sidelines and watch my poor sweet girl suffer with no relief, I’m glad that we did take her in.2014-05-18_0005They’ve determined that she has a nasty strain of gastroenteritis. We really doubted that this crazy sickness was just a viral infection since none of the other people she’s been in contact with had been this sick, and my husband and I hadn’t gotten it from her (until yesterday). I really wanted to pursue further testing, but they wanted to wait a bit longer to see if it would ease up on its own.2014-05-18_0007Sure enough, late Friday night I woke up from a dead sleep in extreme pain. The abdominal pain I had was actually stronger than my labor pains with her. I’ve never been in that kind of pain before. I made my way down to the ER with the help of an awesome nurse and they got me right in. After some blood work and physical exams, they determined that I had a few other infections, along with the viral infection Adalin has. I was sent home on bed rest for 24 hours to let my system take a break. I have never been away from her for that long before. Even though I know she was in great hands (my husband stayed with her the whole time), it was far harder than I expected it to be.2014-05-18_00102014-05-18_0008This morning, since Miss A has been puke-free for over 24 hours, they agreed to discharge her. We had to wait until this afternoon to leave because she’s lost so much weight. They wanted her weight to stabilize before they sent us home. She had lost three pounds before we admitted her, and another pound since we arrived.  She is so frail and pale now, especially compared to the chunky monkey we’re used to having around. It makes me so sad.2014-05-18_0009I’m so thankful that she’s finally starting to feel better now. We have to continue to monitor her at home, but she’s home and that’s all that matters. I know that we’ll all rest a lot easier at home now. Hopefully the next few days continue to show improvement for her, and for me too. 2014-05-18_0006God Bless ♥ Victoria
